Finishing timber is a key part of the manufacturing process. Selecting the optimum coating system for treating your timber is the key to ensuring that it performs and is long-lasting for both exterior and interior applications. Timber finishing’s are applied to add a protective barrier to the timber, which in addition to the technical design and structural make-up of the timber, makes it last much longer. Treatments also help maintain the timbers natural appearance and value.

At Arnold Laver, we supply a range of factory-applied finishes from industry-leading coating manufacturers which allows us to offer tailored solutions that meet customer-specific requirements. We offer a wide range of beautiful colours and stains and can produce finishes to match most timber colours, creating the perfect finish for our customers. A benefit of having your timber treated by Arnold Laver is that it allows installation, finishing time and cost to be significantly reduced.

Interior Priming

For internal joinery products such as architraves, skirtings and door linings, we employ a professional priming service who prepare the material for a topcoat, saving the time required to finish on site. We always offer a single-coat priming finish standard with all of our timber. Some of the additional priming options we offer include multi-coat, sanded, de-nibbed and a knotting service.

Interior Lacquer

Lacquer is a type of wood finish that typically denotes paint and dries up as solvent evaporates, leaving a hard, durable and shiny look on the timber. It can provide timber with a matte, glossy or resinous looks, which is hard and smooth. Lacquer is typically used on interior wood pieces such as furniture or internal joinery.

At Arnold Laver, we offer a two-coat clear lacquer finish for application on interior joinery products. Our standard lacquer finish is set to either a 20% sheen or an 80% sheen. We also supply a range of translucent base stains that can be applied prior to lacquering.

Exterior Timber Stains

Much like the dying or staining of fabric, wood stains are designed to add colour to your timber while leaving some of the woods natural properties visible. Wood stain finishes provide your timber with durability and protects against discolouration, fungi and UV-light upon application. At Arnold Laver offer a wide range of translucent colours and opaque stains which can be colour-matched to any colour timber and used for exterior solutions such as cladding.

Exterior Base Coat/Top Coat

We offer a wide range of base-coat and top-coat solutions for exterior application, including a range of translucent colours and opaque stains which can be colour-matched to most timber colours. To prepare your timber for treating, we sand all material prior to application. The translucent base coats/ top coats then receive a tinted preservative base-coat which contains UV inhibitors followed by 2 coats of exterior top-coat.

Preservative Timber Treatments

Preservative pressure treatments significantly extend the service life of construction and landscaping timbers by providing effective long-term protection against all forms of wood decay and insect attack. We offer a range of industrially applied preservative and fire-retardant timber pre-treatments for both exterior and interior timber. Our preservative treatments include the TANALISED Timber and VASCOL Aqua Treated Timber.

Fire Retardant Timber Treatments

Fire retardant treated timber can be used when buildings need to meet the requirements of national building regulations and will significantly reduce the spread of fire, heat generation and smoke generation. At Arnold Laver, you can choose from a selection of tried, tested and proven fire retardant treatments for your timber and board products wherever fire protection is required by building regulations.

Our Sentrin FTX fire retardant treated timber has been pressure impregnated with a leach resistant, exterior grade fire retardant formulation. Our Sentrin FRI fire retardant treated timber has also been pressure impregnated with humidity resistant, high-temperature fire-retardant formulation. Both of these treatments have been processed under factory conditions to provide confidence in performance and long-lasting protection without the need for further maintenance.
