The award winning architecture and interior design practice Jestico + Whiles redeveloped Passmores Academy (featured in Channel 4's 'Educating Essex' series) using wood as the primary construction material.
Arnold Laver was one of several timber suppliers to the project, and worked with Lonza Wood who provided the fire retardant treatment. Naturally, all timber was responsibly-sourced and FSC-certified.
The Academy exterior was clad in Western Red Cedar, and the learning wings feature board-on-board Western Red Cedar façades (not supplied by Arnold Laver).
The interior uses laminated timber with cross-laminated structural panels, and sprung timber floors in the sports and assembly halls. The assembly hall was also clad with oak fins with insulation underneath.
Wood for Good also feature Passmores Academy in their own case study.
